Love the Eddie Murphy callback. Much of his routines are a massive cringefest but drunk dad still holds up.

Molly, you are an EXCEPTIONAL writer. It's a joy to read your work. Real quick regarding iOS 16, I'm sure someone has pointed this out by now, but you CAN turn off the you're-right-it's-terrible auto-punctuation feature.

How did you pick to move to post over mastodon and the others?

Always nice to get exposed to M dubs’ thoughts. Makes listening to TWiST more enjoyable by balancing out JCal 🫢

Thanks for the White Lotus commentary - I’ve been curious, but your description puts it right in my “cannot watch” zone. I remember getting pissed at Three’s Company as a kid for the same reason.

It's a weird takeover. The site makes at least a large percentage of its money from brand ads, and then he acts as basically un-"brand friendly" as possible. The big re-focus is going to be on "engineering excellence" when, sure, that's an input to Twitter's success, but far from the most immediate (ad relationships, network effects, etc). The link thing seems short-sighted biz-wise. Probably keeps more people on Twitter in the short term by reducing discoverability on Mastodon et al, but in the long run: decent-sized group of high-traffic accounts use Twitter as a form of promotion for links to other sites like a Linktree or their Instagram if they do ads there, etc. They'll reduce activity on Twitter if they can't boost that. Network effects work in both directions so their followers are also less active and so on.

It feels like he is using chaos to keep people engaged like the former president. It's exhausting and not fun anymore. Twitter should be the conversation about everything and a place for creators. This is the absolute opposite.
